SCULPTURES FOR GLOBE RESTAURANT, LAWRENCE
Fifty maple leaves sculpted from crushed and powdered glass through the process of casting . Each leaf is 7 inches inches in height and 9 inches in width. Each leaf is suspended by stainless steel threads from a structural wood frame. The colors of the leaves are derived from nature and also from the cuisine of the culture. “ Eat with your eyes” is the expression the artist is working with.
“Tired of stereotypical prints of Indian paintings hanging listlessly on the myriad Indian restaurants in every city, I’ve chosen to change the status quo by articulating cuisine through color, light, threshold, sequence and enclosure, weaving the object-subject quotient into creative place making.”- Hasna Sal
